Suggestions for Swom

The text below is no longer completely accurate, and will be edited asap.

Here are my suggestions to improve Swom:

If you also have suggestions for improving Swom you are welcome to post your comments :)

Improve value of gold membership in Swom with free advertising $$$

Give all Swom goldmembers free $ to advertise with in Swom every month.
$25 would be best, but any amount would do.

This is much better than reducing the cost of gold, and although it might look like this will cost Swom money I don’t think it will.

It will add more value to gold membership in Swom and it will be easier to upgrade and stay upgraded, which means reliable income for Swom.

It will introduce banneradvertising to all Swom goldmembers and it will become more possible that they will do more banneradvertising with Swom on their own. This is only true for those that haven’t tried it already.

It will increase the price of bannerviews in Swom as more compete for the highest bid, which means that Swom may show the same amount of ads and still have capacity left.

Could show you this with numbers, but I have no numbers available to me, only guesstimates.

Limiting profileviews for free members in Swom is not a good thing for this suggestion because it reduces the amount of banners shown by Swom.

A modification of the limitation would be to limit connection requests instead of profileviews. Or connections at all no matter who sent the connection request.

Swom want as many profileviews as possible, and if Swom don’t Swom should :)

Open a FAQ that works the same way as Open University (OU):

Do not allow any questions about Swom in OU.
Do not reward with points in the live FAQ, but let us have unlimited votes there.

This should clean up OU and help all members understand and work Swom better.
It will of course be available for free members too, which I think will increase the rate of upgrades.

Open a rant section that works the same way as Open University:

Letting people write about their frustrations and disappointments can be both healing and fun. In my mind I am already reading the first few posts. ;)

Having a place where you’re expected to be unhappy about something (doesn’t have to be Swom) is a great idea made by Walter Mulder

Delete button in messages in the inbox:

When you read a message from someone in your inbox you have to exit the message to be able to delete it.
It will save us all time to be able to delete it while we are looking at the content of the message.
Especially me since I sometimes forget which msg I just exited from and have to go back in and check.. ;)

Stop following threads button:

I receive notifications whenever there is a reply/comment in a thread I have posted a comment in. Sometimes the thread turns totally uninteresting and I don’t want to follow it anymore. Instead of me deleting my post(s), which is bad, I would like to click a button that says unfollow. This of course gave me the idea for the follow button :)

Follow threads button:

I would sometimes like to be notified when there is a post in a thread I find interesting, when I haven’t been able to post something to contribute to the topic. I’m not going to say “Hi” just to follow the thread.

As someone might have noticed, I’m not that fond of random Hi’s. If you want to say hi to someone go to their profile and start a brand new fresh thread.

Share advertising revenue:

Swom is getting a lot of advertising revenue now with the bannersystem and I think it would be a very good idea to share a part of this with the members of Swom.
Without members there would be no revenue.
The sharing can be done in many different ways (feel free to come with suggestions). Here’s two ways that I have been thinking of:
1. A percentage to the sponsor of the advertiser
2. A percentage to the Community Participation pool.
What would this accomplish?
1. Swom members would look actively to sponsor advertisers, which would increase revenue.
2. Swom members be even more satisfied with their membership and promote it more.

Let free members earn money

Free members earn nothing today and I really don’t understand why a free member would advertise Swom to anyone, unless they know they are going to upgrade before the next 10th in a month. I know I wouldn’t promote Swom if I was a free member. To me this is a lot of potential advertising that is completely wasted, and I hate waste. :) Solution: Let free members earn a little Free members could be allowed to earn 10% of what they would have earned if they were upgraded. Free members could be allowed to upgrade with earnings. Minimum payout could be higher than for upgraded members, but I don’t really see a reason for it. What will this accomplish? 1. A lot of extra advertising, resulting in a flood of new members. 2. A lot of upgrades, which results in increased earnings for the referrals and for Swom. 3. More advertising, which means more earnings for Swom (and the members if Swom shares revenue..) :) 4. More funds to improve Swom for us all.

Report spam button

Next to a post there should be a report spam button. One click by one person should not trigger anything, but if many people report the same post or person it should notify administration with a details on which posts are reported and which persons reported it. After some adjusting I would think that this would reduce spam.

Stop rewarding spam

I’m not talking about the spam that gets reported, but multiple postings in a thread or on a profile. The most I’ve seen on a profile is more than 50 messages in a row with complete rubbish. A small addition to the Swom code that requires that someone else make a post on the profile in question before you get rewarded for posting again would be nice.
Please remember that every post you get rewarded for is available for everyone else to see.
The only exception is of course if you make an invisible group and post there.
Please don’t abuse that, it will cost you your account and all your work will be wasted.

Let Free Members have more access to Open University (OU)

Letting free members of Swom have access to read and not write would be a great incentive to upgrade.

Link for your previous posts on a persons profile

This would be more or less like FB Wall to Wall. Clicking a link and finding all previous posts you have made to a persons profile would be a great refresher for people with memory like myself.

Editing your bannerads

Whenever you discover that you have made a mistake, want to change banner, change the text etc. it would be nice to be able to edit a little part of the bannerad instead of being forced to insert a new bannerad from scratch.

Link for going straight to private message in inbox

Now, if you want to write someone a private message on Swom you have to click Inbox, Click New, find the recipient by typing their name correctly and choosing from the list that pops up. A link that takes you directly to a private message to the recipient would work much better for all.

Having a section for things we don’t recommend

This would fit nicely below the section for businesses we do recommend.

Great suggestions, Roger, I do agree mostly on them. Good thinking. Especially on these annoying spam on your messages, I ones got more than 25 in a row !

Whenever you get beginners that make mistakes you can try to tell them how to do things right. If they don’t listen you should report them. 25 in a row should be reported immediately though :)

I thought they were good suggestions too Carlton.
That’s why it’s fun to see what ISMM has done.
Almost everything I wanted Swom to do has been done at ISMM.
If you’re not a member yet I highly recommend signing up for free and check it out. Click this link: http://bit.ly/ismcredits
